The platform aims to reduce this burden to 15% by 2032, turning healthcare from a crisis expense into a daily, accessible habit.

Unlike hospitalisation (IPD), OPD care addresses day-to-day medical needs, including doctor visits, tests, medications, dental or physiotherapy sessions, mental health care, and even Ayurveda or homeopathy treatments. A common misconception is that OPD only refers to hospital visits, but it includes most routine healthcare expenses, often not covered by regular health insurance. Thus, the company frames the real problem isn’t just hospitals, it’s everyday access.

India’s healthcare system faces immense pressure from high out-of-pocket expenses, with ₹3.36 trillion spent annually, 45% of which is allocated to outpatient care, including consultations, tests, and medicines. Over 500 million Indians remain uninsured, and only 37% of healthcare workers serve rural areas. With a doctor-to-patient ratio of 1:1,457 (below the WHO’s 1:1,000 norm), the country struggles with major gaps in affordability and access.

The company said it has onboarded over 2.5 lakh users and a claim ratio exceeding 85%.

“The real challenge in India isn’t lack of hospitals, it’s the daily cost of staying healthy,” says KK Jain, Director at zAppy Healthcare. “People don’t realise that OPD care, not hospitalisation, makes up the bulk of their health expenses. That’s where we’re bringing change.”

According to zAppy, while most health insurance products are designed for hospitalisation, zAppy focuses on where the real need lies: daily healthcare. It provides: a) 100% Cashless OPD Access, b) No Waiting Periods, c) No Age or Sub Limits, d) Open Network of Verified Providers (Pan-India), d) Money-Back Guarantee on Claims, e) No-Cost Medical Loans via UPI, f) Family Floater Options

zAppy claims India sees over 5.5 to 6.6 million OPD transactions daily, yet access to structured, affordable care remains limited.

“As we see it, the future of healthcare is prevention-first,” says Ashish Swarnkar, Co-founder of zAppy. “We’re not just simplifying access. We’re creating a new culture of everyday wellness.”
