e-Sanjeevani: India’s Public Telemedicine Platform Scales Up with AI and ABDM Integration

India’s flagship telemedicine platform, e-Sanjeevani, has emerged as a critical tool in bridging healthcare gaps, especially for the elderly, women, and those in remote areas.

Since its launch in 2019, the platform has enabled over 349 million free consultations by early 2025, significantly easing access to medical care without the need for physical hospital visits.

Backed by the government and integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), e-Sanjeevani connects more than 230,000 doctors and healthcare professionals across 28 states and 8 union territories. It offers two models:

  • eSanjeevani AB–AAM, which connects community health officers at Health and Wellness Centres to medical specialists

  • eSanjeevani OPD, allowing direct video consultations between patients and doctors from the comfort of home

With over 131,000 wellness centres and nearly 17,000 hubs—including medical colleges and specialty hospitals—the platform follows a scalable hub-and-spoke model. States like Andhra Pradesh lead adoption, having crossed 60 million consultations. Notably, over 56% of users are women, and seniors account for 13%, underlining the platform’s inclusive impact.

e-Sanjeevani is proving to be a game-changer for rural healthcare in India by bringing quality medical consultation to the doorstep of underserved communities. Through its assisted model, local Health and Wellness Centres are digitally connected to specialists in urban hospitals, enabling real-time consultations even in remote areas. This eliminates the need for long-distance travel and reduces costs for patients. The platform supports multiple Indian languages, ensuring inclusivity, while community health officers help bridge digital literacy gaps. Integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission allows rural patients to maintain digital health records, improving care continuity.
